Another fantastic effort by both the blue and White teams. Both teams only lost 1 Group game to Phoenix Rangers A&B 1-0 respectively who are a top premier side from the cwyfl. The White team did well to reach the semi final and although they lost 1-0 again to Phoenix they did win the 3rd place play off. The tournament was a bit dissapointing with a big slope and no half times and it did not help that a number of teams played with 3 defenders meaning a lot of drawn matches.
Overall the tournaments have gone fantastic and the lads can be really proud of their performances and although we did not win a tournament the players have improved their fitness and some of the new players had a chance to play mini soccer for the first time. Tuesday, July 13

At today's Silverdale tournament the squad put in a fantastic performance and some of the football played particularly, in the group stage was scintillating. The team went unbeaten in the group and beat Phoenix United in the process who are a very strong powerful team from the CWYFL division 1. Kenilworth Town were beaten 2-0 in the quarter final setting up a semi-final against Halas Hawks Dynamos. The match went to extra time after a Luke header levelled the game late on and the team went on to score all five penalties and a great save from Sam meant the team went through to the final against Redditch Town. The match was a very close affair but a superb piece of individual quality from their striker created an opportunity which gave Redditch the lead and try as they might they could not get the equaliser and ended up conceding a 2nd with seconds to when chasing an equaliser. The lad's were disappointed to lose their 3rd final in succession particularly as the only game lost in all three was the final itself. Finishing runner up in a tournament with the quality of teams on display is no mean achievement and as I said to the players winning is not the be all and end all what is important was the feedback from the other managers such as the winning finalist who who said we were the best team they had played in the tournament as well as feedback from the tournament officials and referees as to the quality of the team play. Pictures will be on the gallery tomorrow Saturday, June 26

Well done to both the white and blue teams in the Chapelfield Colts tournament today. Both teams acquitted themselves well in a high standard tournament with teams from as a far as London. The White team winning 1, drawing 2 and losing 2 and the blue team winning 1, drawing 3 and losing 1.

Another fantastic effort by all the players in the squad today playing some great football winning all their group games, the quarter final and getting to the final via a penalty shoot out in the semi-final. Unfortunately, for the second week running the team lost in the final this time against hosts Hasbury Rangers 1-0 . The pictures from today have been added to the photo gallery on main website.

I did not really get an opportunity to talk about the players or the individual award winners this year so I thought I would add some of the words I would have said to this blog. Top Goal Scorer For the 5th season running Michael finished top scorer with an outstanding total of 40 goals. Joey was second with 20 and Connor and Dominic tied in 3rd place with 13. Refereee's Man of the Match Michael and Joey who tied with 7 each came out on top with Bert second on 4 and Luke third with 3. Dominic had 2 and Josh and Calum one each. Players player Joey came out on top and this award was a well deserved recognition from his team mates for his displays throughout the season. Coaches player of the year A very difficult decision, and a number of players were close - Daniel's overall contribution this season which has been immense, Luke's effort and work rate which was second to none and Sam's seven clean sheets. But all things considered Patrick's overall contribution for a player playing his first every season and slotting comfortably into a number of positions was the standout player for me. The other four new players also in their first season Calum, Christian, James and Max all contributed to the overall team effort and have improved as the season has progressed and will they will all develop further next season. Well done to the whole squad for a fantastic season.

Well done to both teams that played in the Brandhall Tournament yesterday. There was some great feedback from other managers and neutrals about the quality of football that was played by both the blue and white teams. The blue team winning 4 and losing only one group game in controversial circumstances to Woodgate Warriors B and the white team winning all 5 group games. Unfortunately, this meant that both Lightwoods teams had to meet in the semi-finals with the white team narrowly winning 2-1. Both Woodgate Warriors teams also had to meet in the other semi-final which the Woodgate A team won. The final went to extra time with Woodgate coming from behind to win 2-1 in, for the second time involving a Woodgate team, highly controversial circumstances with the same referee. A complaint has been submitted to Brandhall about the standard of this referee and the fact that there own competition rules were not applied correctly.
